The brief

Make a protected 1920s turbine hall feel like the most advanced room in the country — without touching a single wall.

Aurora had outgrown conference centres. They wanted a venue with a story, which meant inheriting every constraint that comes with a heritage building: no fixings, no permanent power, a 14-hour load-in window.

What they asked for

Give us a summit that feels like the building, not a trade-show kit dropped inside it. Nothing may touch the structure, and the whole build has one 14-hour window.

What we proposed

A free-standing tower system laid out on the grid of the old turbine plinths.

Screens, seating, wayfinding and catering all align to the same 6.4-metre module, so the load-in was predictable to the minute and the hall itself stayed untouched.

The concept

A grid becomes a grammar

Three chapters: read the building, borrow its logic, disappear behind it.

Read the building
A laser scan of the hall came before any drawing. Every tower position was validated against the point cloud, so nothing had to move on site.
Borrow its logic
The turbine plinths set a 6.4-metre module. We let that module place the screens, the seating and even the catering points.
Disappear behind it
On show nights the scenography reads as part of the architecture. The room did half the work for us.

Survey
Laser scan of the hall, then a tower grid drawn on the point cloud.

Pre-build
Every tower assembled and cabled once in the workshop before shipping.

Fourteen hours from first truck to first focus, 48 crew at peak.

Three show days, then the hall handed back exactly as surveyed.
